PALO ALTO – A burglar snuck into a Palo Alto home Tuesday night and stole jewelry while the resident was asleep, police said.
Officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of Barron Avenue around 10:40 p.m. for a report of a burglary, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a news release.
The resident, a woman in her 90s, slept through the burglary, police said, adding that she was awakened after the fact by a telephone call from her alarm company inquiring about an alarm activation that happened around 10:20 p.m.
The alarm company also notified the woman’s adult daughter, police said. The daughter, who lives nearby, arrived at her mother’s home to find the front door open and called police.
An investigation revealed the burglar likely entered the home through an unlocked door and rummaged through several rooms, police said. Jewelry was missing from the woman’s bedroom.
Police said there was no evidence connecting the burglary to one that happened July 27 at an occupied home in the 800 block of University Avenue.
