Tottenham Hotspur have this evening been part of a pre-draw for the Carabao Cup third round.
There has been a change to the draw this year due to the increased number of Champions League and Europa League group stage fixtures.
UEFA’s decision to tweak the two competitions has seen additional matchweeks have been added to the calendar for those two competitions that clash with the dates for the Carabao Cup, which will be staggered over the weeks commencing 16 September and 23 September.
A pre-draw has taken place prior to Nottingham Forest’s match against Newcastle to determine the home and away positioning of the six clubs in Bowl 1 for the first six ties of the main draw.
To ensure there is no clash of fixture dates for the six English teams playing in these competitions, two bowls will be used for the draw.
Bowl One contained the teams who have reached the Champions League and Europa League, while Bowl Two will have the remaining 26 clubs.
The first six ties will be drawn by alternating between one club from Bowl 1 and one side from Bowl 2. Once the six clubs from Bowl 1 have been drawn, the remaining ten ties will be drawn from Bowl 2 only.
This will only be the case for the third round – the rest of the competition will follow the traditional free-draw format.
The draw which was conducted by two former Spurs players Michael Dawson and Les Ferdinand has seen four of the six Carabao Cup ties invoving clubs in European competition set to be played at home. The final two of the six will be on the road in their respective ties.
The full draw will take place after the Forest v Newcastle United tie at the City Ground, and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
