Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has hinted that Tottenham Hotspur could decide to offer Cristian Romero a new contract before the end of the season.
Romero is not only one of Tottenham’s most important players but he has also become one of the leaders of the Spurs side over the last year.
The 26-year-old is the older head at the back who has the responsibility of marshalling a young Spurs backline and he has undoubtedly matured as a player over the last 12 months, managing to cut out the moments of brashness he was previously prone to.
The central defender’s profile has blossomed thanks to the success he has enjoyed with Argentina over recent years, with the defender playing a key role in the nation’s World Cup win in 2022 as well as their back-to-back Copa America titles.
That has understandably brought interest from some of the big-hitters around Europe, with reports revealing earlier this summer that Real Madrid were keen on securing the Tottenham man (The Standard).
The former Atalanta star has three years left on his contract in North London and Bridge believes that a new deal could be on the offing for the defender.
When asked if Romero could sign a new contract, the journalist told Last Word on Spurs: “It wouldn’t surprise me, Spurs during the season are going to sit down and speak to Cristian Romero. He’s he’s an immense defender.
“I don’t think he, in terms of cards, he’s not as erratic as he used to be before Postecoglou. I would like to see him be more of a leader sometimes. Romero, who knows he’s a he’s an immense defender, he’s bound to get some interest as the months drag on.”

There is no doubt that Tottenham will try to initiate contact with Romero’s representatives regarding a new contract.
The centre-back certainly seems at home at the club but if Spurs do not show signs of competing for major honours, he might be tempted to wait and see what offers are on the table next summer.
