Wilson returns to Shortstop today
The Oakland Athletics take on the National League Central’s Cincinnati Reds this afternoon at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The A’s are two games ahead of the LA Angels, but still four behind the Rangers in third place right now. The Reds are currently 63-68 and trail the Milwaukee Brewers (who just left the Coliseum after a three-game series with the A’s) by 12.5 games.
The A’s shortstop of the future, Jacob Wilson returns to the lineup today after a stint on the Injured List (IL) with a strained left hamstring. Wilson had just one at-bat in his first call-up injuring the hamstring after legging out a single on July 20th.
Mitch Spence gets the start for the A’s today on the road. This season the 27-year-old rookie is 7-9 with a 4.67 ERA over twenty-eight games (17 starts). He’ll go up against 31-year-old righty Jacob Junis for the Reds. Junis is 4-0 with a 3.52 ERA. Junis came over from the Brewers in a trade deadline deal on July 30.
