Columbus woman arrested over man's death accused of stabbing him 13 times before

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A woman charged with murdering her live-in partner was also accused of stabbing him 13 times with a pair of scissors nearly one year prior.
Brittney McBride was arraigned Tuesday in Franklin County Municipal, in connection to the murder of 36-year-old Dajuan Rios, and two other previous charges. According to court records, she was also wanted in a stabbing that took place on Sept. 7, 2023 and had a bench warrant for her arrest related to a domestic violence incident in 2020.
Officers responded the night of Aug. 3 to reports of a person shot in the 800 block of Murray Avenue in Columbus' North Central area. Police found Rios in a home's front yard, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead at 3:21 a.m. on Aug. 4.
Police identified McBride as the suspect after they traced the 911 call to a cellphone listed under her name. The victim’s sister also told police that McBride lived at the Murray Avenue residence.
An arrest warrant was carried out Monday and during an interview with police, McBride denied being at the home during the shooting. However, she later told them she heard knocking at the door, opened it, and shot Rios.
The case over Rios' death is the second time McBride has been charged with a violent crime against her live-in partner. Court records indicate that in September 2023, police found Rios inside a home near the 2600 block of Roehampton Court, in the southeast Columbus neighborhood of Glenbrook. Rios was hospitalized with 13 stab wounds to arms, chest, back and head.
The police report stated that McBride attacked Rios with a pair of scissors after an argument. A warrant was issued for her arrest, but she was never placed into custody.
McBride was also charged with domestic violence in January 2020, though she failed to appear in Franklin County Municipal Court for a scheduled trial. A bench warrant was issued for her arrest in August 2020.
On Tuesday, a Franklin County municipal judge issued McBride bonds of $800,000 for the murder charge, $350,000 for one count of felonious assault, and $500 for the domestic violence incident.
