READSBORO, Vt. (NEWS10)-- Vermont State Police are investigating the death of a man who was reported missing on Sunday morning. Troopers said Harold Lavanway was reported missing by his family, who was last seen on Friday, Aug. 23, around 10 p.m.
Troopers said they were alerted to a car down an embankment on Tunnel Street in Whitingham, which they found matched the description of Lavanway's gray 2011 Honda Civic. After responding to the call, Troopers said they found Lavanway deceased in the car.
Lavanway's body was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Burlington to determine the cause of his death. Troopers said an initial investigation found Lavanway was traveling north on Tunnel Street, going through a left-hand curve, veering off the shoulder when the road straightened, and going down a 10-foot steep embankment.
