James Maddison has confessed that he feels like he is getting back to his best after a poor end last season, admitting that he felt like a real threat in the clashes against Leicester City and Everton.
Spurs need Maddison to step up after the attacking midfielder’s struggles in the latter part of last season and he has done just that so far this year, being one of the Lilywhites’ most threatening players in their opening two games.
The 27-year-old looks like the player we saw at the start of last season and Ange Postecoglou has suggested that it is perhaps due to the fact that the former Foxes star is now 100 per cent fit and feels confident about his body (Football.London).
Maddison now has two assists to his name already this season, setting up Pedro Porro with a fine cross last Monday while delivering an inswinging corner which was headed home by Cristian Romero against the Toffees on Saturday.
When asked about his own form, the England international told Spurs Play: “I felt like a real threat today [against Everton] and against Leicester, which is good and I feel in a good place when I feel dangerous and feel like a threat.
“We started the game so well on the left side; me, Wilson and Destiny. We had a really good dynamic going and we got the balance perfect of sometimes leaving Wilson one-v-one, sometimes me running in the half-space and we had some dangerous crosses where we could have scored, could have had a couple more assists.
“The goals and assists are important for a player like myself because that’s what I’m in the team to do. That’s what the club bought me for, so it’s nice to get the return on the chances that I create.”

When Maddison is fully fit and feeling confident, there are a few better players to watch in the Premier League.
If the attacking midfielder continues playing like this and remains fit through the season, Tottenham will be hard to stop.
