If you’re like us, this video will have some real surprises.
Kyrie Irving has become a polarizing figure in the NBA. His talent is widely admired but periodically he’s said or done things that people find odd. There was the flat earth business. There was the controversial movie on Prime that he seemingly endorsed. Depending on where you stood, his position on getting the Covid vaccine brought admiration or condemnation.
There are other things but you get the idea.
It’s a bit curious though, when you stop and think about it, how little we really get of Kyrie the man. He might pontificate on one thing or the other but talk about himself? He doesn't really do it all that much.
This video fills in some of the blanks.
This guy who knew Kyrie’s father Drederick at Boston University tells several stories about Kyrie’s family.
He talks about Drederick’s failure to make it in the NBA, how his wife died rather suddenly when Kyrie was 10 and how Drederick was in the World Trade Center on 9/11.
He also details the amazing recruiting pitch that Mike Krzyzewski used when Kyrie and his father came to Duke for their visit. We can pretty much guarantee that no one, anywhere, hit both Irvings with a precision emotional munition like Coach K did.
It really is an amazing clip. You’ll be happy you watched it.
