08/27/2024: Warm Today, Chance For Storms Wednesday

The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologist Kevin Appleby:

Patchy Dense Valley Fog has developed once again across the News10 viewing area, but will burn off by mid-morning. Skies will turn mostly sunny, and temperatures will climb into the 80s. Shower and storm chances ramp up tonight.

Once any fog burns off, we will be welcomed with bright skies, warmer conditions, and a touch of humidity. Highs should make it into the 80s regionwide.

Clouds thicken overnight, and a few scattered showers and perhaps a rumble or two of thunder are expected after midnight. Clouds and a bit more mugginess keep temperatures much milder, with everyone in the 60s this time around.

Wednesday is far from a washout, especially if you totally buy the trends in guidance this morning. I expect spotty morning showers followed by some dry time. Into the afternoon, a cold front will be coming through our area. Even though most guidance keeps us dry, I expect a few showers and thunderstorms to fire up along the front.

The severe threat, thankfully, looks to be largely suppressed to our south, with only Greene, Columbia, and Berkshire Counties included in a Marginal Level 1/5 Risk for gusty winds and hail from the Storm Prediction Center.

Temperatures spike with a bit of sunshine just ahead of the front. It will be more humid ahead of the front, as well. Temperatures will vary widely across the region, with cooler conditions to the north and much warmer conditions to the south.

Behind the cold front, the humidity drops, but clouds hang around for another day. That will keep temperatures in the upper 60s and 70s. Ditto for Friday, despite brighter skies. Precipitation chances both days look minimal.

Saturday continues to look wet, though guidance from this morning suggests we may be able to sneak in a dry morning. Sunday and Monday are still volatile on guidance (very inconsistent outputs) but don't look to have nearly as widespread rain chances compared to Saturday at this time - but it is something we will continue to watch closely over the next few days.
