Alan Shearer has admitted that Wilson Odobert impressed him on his Tottenham Hotspur debut, suggesting that the winger adds something different to the Spurs side.
Odobert’s signing was met with a mixed response from Spurs fans, with a few supporters questioning whether the Lilywhites should have gone for a more proven winger rather than a young, up-and-coming prospect.
However, the 19-year-old showcased on his debut just why Ange Postecoglou and the Tottenham hierarchy brought him through the door, impressing everyone with his enterprising attacking play.
His aggression and his willingness to run at the Everton defence not only helped Spurs stretch the pitch but also created a buzz around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium whenever he got on the ball.
The winger has received plenty of praise from Postecoglou and his Tottenham teammates, and it is now the turn of Shearer to sing the praises of the former Burnley man, with the pundit impressed by the debutant’s combination play.
The Newcastle legend told Rest is Football podcast about Odobert’s performance: “Very good, very good! I thought he was really lively, really energetic.
“He brought a different dimension. I thought, give-go, had a really good understanding of who and what they are. Yeah, I was impressed with him.”

It is still early days and we cannot get afford to get carried away by one good performance.
However, Odobert is exactly the type of ball-carrying winger Ange would have wanted to bring through the door as his inclusion makes our attack look a lot more potent, given the movement in and around the box.
