Chunky, max-cushioned running shoes remain a prevailing trend, as made evident by a recently released Costco item that has gone viral on social media.
Costco’s in-house Kirkland Signature line, known for its affordable apparel and accessories, launched the Comfort Walker sneaker earlier this year. With its thick midsole and chevron-patterned mesh upper, it’s difficult not to draw comparisons to popular high-end running shoes. But while those models are often priced over $100, the Kirkland Signature Comfort Walker can be found as low as $19.97 in stores. Online from Costco’s e-commerce store, the sneaker sells for $32.99 in all-white and all-black styles.
According to Costco’s product description, the Kirkland Signature Comfort Walker sneakers feature breathable engineered mesh uppers which also repel water and stains. The outsole uses a slip-resistant upper, while the heel pull tab dons a reflective stripe.
Compared to the tech-packed running models offered by other brands, the Kirkland Signature design is relatively no frills, but that’s also part of what helps keep the shoe’s price point lower. And despite the runner aesthetic of the Kirkland model, the lack of technology means the sneakers are likely best suited for walking.
The internet’s response to the Kirkland Signature Comfort Walker has been overwhelmingly positive.
An August 18 post from X user @michaelmiraflor helped the shoes gain new visibility, but Costco connoisseurs have been privy to the pair for months.
On the unofficial Costco subreddit, fans praise the Comfort Walker’s value and, as its name suggests, comfort. One Reddit user even gave his white colorway a DIY tie-dye makeover. The Comfort Walkers have also found their way to TikTok, where many users highlight similar versions of popular consumer products.
On Costco’s website, the shoes have an average customer rating of 4.4 out of 5.
