EAST HARLEM (PIX11) – A 124-year-old church in East Harlem could soon be sold to a real estate developer for $5 million, according to court documents filed last week.
The sale, first reported by Gothamist, will put the Church of the Holy Rosary on East 119th Street in real estate developer Kahen Development Group’s hands for $5 million. The Archdiocese of New York has already signed off on the sale.
The church was built in 1900 and today sits in disarray, according to an appraisal of the property. Appraisal photos of the church show damage to the walls and ceilings, a damaged staircase and torn-up floors.
The church first went up for sale in 2023. Years ago, the parish merged with a neighboring church, Saint Paul on East 117th Street, which became the primary location for masses and other activities. The 119th Street church was ultimately deconsecrated in 2017, records show.
