Son Heung-min has praised Wilson Odobert for his performance on Saturday but warned the youngster not to get carried away after one good game.
Many would have been surprised to see Ange Postecolgou throw Odobert straight into the starting eleven against Everton but the winger vindicated the Australian’s decision, delivering an eye-catching display.
The 19-year-old ran at the Everton defence at every opportunity, showcasing his guile, balance and quick feet, getting the home fans on their feet every time he got on the ball.
It was certainly a statement performance from the teenager, whose aggression and willingness to take on the defenders added a different dimension to Tottenham’s attack.
Son, who started down the middle and netted a brace in the 4-0 win, admitted that he was over the moon with the youngster’s display.
When asked about Odobert, the South Korean told the club’s official channel: “He was very, very impressive. He’s trained with the team maybe three, or four times, but you can see his quality. He understood how we want to play and I was very pleased to see him on the left side, one-on-one, making an impact.”
However, Son urged everyone not to get carried away after one performance, stressing that it is important for young players like Frenchmen to stay humble.
The Tottenham captain added: “It’s only his first game so let’s not celebrate too much because with the young players, we need to stay humble and take care of these players.
“We can’t let them celebrate after just one game because football is such a long season, I’m trying to help the young lads because one game is not everything. I hope he can keep producing those performances and keep the sharpness.”
