Former President Trump’s campaign is disputing the Foo Fighters’ claim that the use of their song "My Hero" during a campaign rally was unauthorized.
A spokesperson for the Foo Fighters said in a statement to The Hill late Sunday that the band did not give permission to the Trump campaign to use the song at a campaign rally in Arizona on Friday. The spokesperson said any royalties the band earns off the song would be donated to Vice President Harris’s campaign.
“Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and if they were they would not have granted it,” the spokesperson said.
However, the Trump campaign said it had permission to play the song.
“We have a license to play the song,” Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said in an email to The Hill.
He also took to the social platform X to dispute the claim.
“It’s Times Like These facts matter, don’t be a Pretender. @foofighters,” he wrote, referring to two other songs by the band.
“My Hero” could be heard playing at Trump’s rally in Glendale on Friday as the former president introduced former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who suspended his campaign earlier in the day and threw his support behind Trump.
The spokesperson for the band early Monday reiterated that they did not give permission to play the song when reached for comment on the Trump campaign's response.
"Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and again, even if they had been they would not have granted it," the spokesperson said.
