According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona centre-back Andreas Christensen, who was mooted as a target for Tottenham, has now suffered an Achilles injury.
Ange Postecoglou admitted following Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Everton on Saturday that the Lilywhites will be alert to any market opportunities that present themselves in the final days of the transfer window, refusing to rule out a late signing or two (Sky Sports).
One area where Spurs could look to add reinforcements in is at the back, with Postecoglou having just three out-and-out central defenders at his disposal.
It was Sport who reported a few days ago that Tottenham may make a late move for Christensen, who is thought to be surplus to requirements at Barca.
The report suggested that the Denmark international could return to the Premier League before the deadline, with Newcastle and Spurs being named as potential destinations for the defender.
However, the same publication has now suggested that the Catalan club may now find it hard to offload Christensen after he suffered an Achilles injury.
The publication adds that the former Chelsea man is now expected to remain out of action for two months, although Hansi Flick’s men are now hoping that he recovers quicker than anticipated.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Tottenham do enter the market for a centre-back, it will be for a younger, up-and-coming player who would not mind having a bit-part role for the time being.
I cannot see too many experienced defenders wanting to come to Spurs as they will know that they will be coming in to serve as a backup rather than to play.
