Former Everton winger Pat Nevin thinks Richarlison looked annoyed after being left on the bench by Ange Postecoglou against Everton this weekend.
Postecoglou confirmed before the game that Richarlison was fit enough to start if needed (Football.London) and many fans expected the Brazilian to come into the starting eleven, given that Dominic Solanke was out with an injury.
However, Postecoglou instead decided to move Son Heung-min to the number nine role and handed Wilson Odobert his debut on the left, choosing to leave the former Everton man on the bench.
The decision certainly worked, with Son netting a brace to help Tottenham emerge comfortable 4-0 winners against Sean Dyche’s men.
Richarlison did get around 25 minutes under his belt after he came on in place of Odobert on 66 minutes but Nevin remarked before the forward’s introduction that the player did not look best pleased to be left out of the eleven.
The pundit said on BBC Radio 5 Live commentary (24/8/24 – 16:27): “He (Richarlison) had a face like thunder on the bench, he obviously wants to play. But, he also needs to look at the players who are in front of him who are all playing well.”
Some Spurs fans will argue that this is a positive sign – after all, you don’t want senior first-team players to be happy about being benched.

We know that Richarlison always has that type of look on his face where he appears as if he is fuming. We should not read too much into the striker’s body language.
When he does get his opportunity, the Brazilian will be hungry to prove to Postecoglou that he can still be counted on. He might even get a chance to start at Newcastle, with Solanke still a doubt for that game.
