OASIS and The Who session drummer Zak Starkey has admitted he was banned from renting out a plush manor house after the owners discovered he planned to use it for a huge birthday bash.
The 58-year-old musician, son of The Beatles icon, Ringo Starr, attempted to buy out a fancy Victorian mansion in order to celebrate his wife Sharna Liguz’s 40th birthday
Zak tried to book the six-bedroom house, reportedly in Cadmore End in the Chilterns, Buckinghamshire, for three nights via AirBnb.
However, when he visited the home to look around before agreeing to renting it, a chat with the cleaners proved to be his downfall.
He told The Mirror: “The Airbnb hosts cancelled after Googling me and seeing Oasis and The Who – the two worst-behaved bands in the history of rock ’n’ roll .
“It would look great on a T-shirt.”
However, the property owners debated his claims, telling the site that parties weren’t permitted under the AirBnB rules, so it was the site that cancelled the booking.
Celebs on the guest list for the bash included Liam Gallagher and Johnny Marr, both of whom have a freely available history of their partying days online.
Fortunately, the group were able to find an alternate party venue at the last minute, saving the party and allowing Sharna to be celebrated in style.
Zak has been married to Sharna since 2022 after an 18-year relationship, with the pair tying the knot at the Sunset Marquis hotel with Ringo among the guests.
The drummer has followed in his dad’s footsteps in the music industry, joining some of the most prestigious rock groups in British history throughout his career.
He was given his first drum kit at the age of six by The Who frontman, Keith Moon, and would become a member of the band decades later, joining in 1996 for their Quadrophenia tour.
Zak was also a founding bandmate of Johnny Marr and The Healers, and has also performed with The Lightning Seeds.
In 2004, he became a member of Oasis, recording their albums Don’t Believe The Truth in 2006 and Dig Out Your Soul in 2008, before quitting the band after a falling out with Liam Gallagher.
He’s since been a session musician for a number of bands and in 2016 launched his own record label, Trojan Jamaica, in order to promote music inspired from the Caribbean island, as well as soul and blues from America.
