Anyone associated with Tottenham Hotspur knows it’s about time the club won a trophy, and the current squad and manager could be well-placed to do just that. According to Spurs icon, Paul Gascoigne, two players in particular are key to their chances.
The Spurs squad is currently looking like it’s in a good place. Ange Postecoglou has implemented his style of football within the team, he has new players who fit the system, and he’s managed to get rid of plenty of fringe players this summer, too.
Historically, Postecoglou often delivers trophies in his second season with a club, but can he do it in the Premier League, too?
According to Gascoigne, the Spurs squad is looking good, but they still rely too heavily on Heung-min Son.
He told Techopedia: “Heung-Min Son seems to just get better and better. He’s a great player. Sometimes they look like it’s just a one-man team in the last couple of seasons.”
Gascoigne also highlighted James Maddison as an influential figure in the Spurs squad, but suggested the Lilywhites need to sign more players that can compete for first-team places if they are to achieve the success they crave.
He added: “Now they’ve got James Maddison, it’s a decent squad but they’ve got to strengthen it because you want to be playing with someone on the bench thinking, I better play well today because he’s going to take my place.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I do think the squad is in good shape, but I agree we probably need to add another three or four players and upgrade in a few areas.
I still think we’ve got enough about us to win a trophy this season, though. Once the team finds its rhythm this season, we should see them go on a good run.
