Rumer Willis Opens up About Her Breakup From Derek Richard Thomas a Year After Welcoming Baby Lou
Rumer Willis revealed she is broken up with boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas but her uplifting attitude towards life after their split is something we could all learn a thing or two from!
The actress, 36, revealed her break up in an Instagram Q&A after a fan asked if she and Thomas were “still a couple” to which Willis replied, “Nope I am single momming it and co-parenting.”
“I’m so grateful for Lou,” she said in reference to her 16-month-old daughter Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, who the former couple welcomed on April 18, 2023. “She is the best thing in my life and I am forever grateful I was able to have the time in that relationship for her to come into my life,” Willis concluded.
Willis’ positive view of life as co-parenting exes definitely has us applauding! Willis has been linked to the Vista Kicks guitarist and singer since 2022. Thomas debuted their relationship in August, four months before Willis announced her pregnancy.
“In the short time we’ve been together you have filled my life with joy and peace,” Thomas wrote in a birthday tribute on Instagram, suggesting the couple hadn’t been together long at that point. “Everything is just so easy with you. We sing, we dance, we play and most of all we laugh. Thank you for being you ???? you’re a magical human I’m so glad you came into my life.”
The now-exes most recently opened up about their relationship in a June Instagram post for Father’s Day with Thomas writing, “I love you, Louetta. Thank you for changing my life and transforming me into a better person. Being your father is the greatest joy of my life. It’s an honor to be your guide as you teach me how to live. Thank you you for existing and thank you to your mother @rumerwillis for being my loving partner on this journey of parenthood. I love you both.”
Willis, meanwhile, added her own message of support for Thomas, writing, “Derek, Lou is so lucky to have a papa that loves her so much. I am so grateful she has a dad that encourages and helps to cultivate her sense of wonder and play and teaches her it’s okay to get dirty and run barefoot in the grass. Happy Fathers Day.”
