TERREBONNE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A child is dead following a crash on a Terrebonne Parish highway, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers report that around 4 p.m. Thursday they responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 500 block of La. 665.
Investigators said a Freightliner B2 school bus was headed south on the highway when the driver activated their flashing warning lights before coming to a stop to drop off children, including 7-year-old Jeremiah Falgout.
Troopers say the bus pulled off, striking Falgout causing critical injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Troopers said that alcohol was not determined to be a factor as the driver submitted a test that showed no alcohol detected. The driver was also wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and no other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
