According to The Athletic, Fulham have now submitted an offer for Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki, who has been mooted as a target for Tottenham Hotspur.
Cherki exploded onto the scene a couple of years ago after breaking into Lyon’s first-team, with the youngster seen by many as the next big potential superstar to emerge from French football.
However, the 21-year-old’s development has now stagnated over the last 12 months and he is now thought to be keen on a fresh start elsewhere.
HITC claimed back in June that Tottenham are among the clubs who hold an interest in the France Under-21 international, with the North London club thought to have admired the youngster for ‘some time’.
However, it is their London rivals, Fulham, who have reportedly made the first move for Cherki, having submitted an offer worth £12m plus add-ons for the player.
The Athletic explain that the Lyon academy graduate is now into the final year of his contract and is training separately, with an exit from the Groupama Stadium appearing certain before the transfer deadline.
The outlet adds that Crystal Palace also have their eye on Cherki but it is the Cottagers who are in the driving seat after submitting an offer for the attacking midfielder.
Spurs Web Opinion
Following the signing of Wilson Odobert, who, like Cherki, can play in either flank or as a number ten, Tottenham are unlikely to make any more attacking additions before the end of the month.
Instead, I expect Postecoglou and co to go for a deep-lying or defensive midfielder.
