The Athletic have revealed that while Tottenham have been looking at various midfielders, signing one before the transfer deadline is no longer a priority for the North London club.
It is explained that despite losing the likes of Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tottenham have been looking for more of a forward-thinking energetic midfielder rather than a number six.
That is why they were keen on Jacob Ramsey but it is pointed out that for the second transfer window in a row, the Lilywhites were unable to secure the services of the Aston Villa star.
The report states that Ange Postecoglou has always been a big admirer of Conor Gallagher but Tottenham did not make any formal approach for the 24-year-old this summer.
It is revealed that with a little over a week left in the window, even an all-action midfielder is not considered a priority by the club any longer.
This is because Postecoglou and his coaching staff have been extremely impressed with both Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, with both newcomers expected to play a key role this season.
The publication adds that the Swede will be used as James Maddison’s understudy this season while the former Leeds man is seen as someone who can play in several different positions.

In Maddison, Bergvall, Bissouma, Gray, Sarr and Bentancur, Postecoglou has six players for three positions but I suspect that the Australian might want to bring one more energetic box-to-box midfielder through the door before the window shuts.
If not, Tottenham will probably look for one in January. After all, Postecoglou has been clear that the project will not be completed over just one or two windows.
