'Panic move': GOP swing state mailer tries to stop Trump's bleeding from Project 2025
If there is any question about whether the Heritage Foundation's controversial Project 2025 is having an impact on the 2024 presidential race, a recent mailer from the Michigan Republican Party suggests that it very much is.
Huffington Post journalist and Michigan resident Jonathan Cohn on Twitter flagged a mailer he received from the Michigan GOP that tries to distance former President Donald Trump from Project 2025, an initiative that aims to radically expand presidential powers by stripping away independence from government agencies and putting them under the direct control of the Oval Office.
Specifically, the mailer emphasized proposals from the Republican Party's 2024 platform, which it said is "not Project 2025, which Trump didn't write and does not support."
The mailer further notes that Trump has called some of the proposals in Project 2025 "absolutely ridiculous and abysmal."

While Trump has tried to disavow Project 2025, it has been difficult for him to do so given that the document was written by multiple former Trump administration officials and that the Heritage Foundation, which is responsible for the plan, is loaded with staffers who are likely to fill spots in his second administration.
What's more, Trump has embraced some of Project 2025's most controversial and unpopular initiatives, including abolishing the Department of Education.
Former political journalist Ron Fournier, also a Michigan native, described the new mailer from Republicans as a "panic move."
