Alabama Democrats appear to be asleep at the wheel and could miss a crucial deadline to put their party nominee on the ballot, according to a report.
Kamala Harris is highly unlikely to beat Donald Trump in the deep-red state's presidential election but, as the saying goes, you've got to be in it to win it – and as of now she's not on the ticket, reported AL.com columnist Kyle Whitmore.
"I just confirmed with the Ala. Secretary of State's office that the Alabama Democratic Party hasn't submitted the paperwork yet to put Kamala Harris on the ballot in Alabama," Whitmore posted on X. "Today is the deadline. The DNC virtual roll call was more than two weeks ago, making her the nominee."
The Democratic National Committee scheduled the party's convention after the deadline to put their candidate on the ballot, and the secretary of state's office reminded party leaders they needed to introduce a bill to carve out an exception. Whitmore said Democratic legislators seemingly dragged their feet.

"When the Alabama Democrats waited until the last day to put that bill on the calendar," he reported, "it was the Republicans on the Rules Committee who helped them when those Dems forgot."
Whitmore blamed party infighting over who got to represent the state at the convention for the delay, but the Alabama Democratic Party issued a tweet saying everything was proceeding according to plan.
"It has always been planned to turn it in today and that plan was approved of by both the Harris for President Campaign and the DNC," the party stated on its X account in response to Whitmore. "VP Harris and Governor Walz will be on the Alabama ballot."
