Opinion: Yves Bissouma is set to be handed a Spurs lifeline by circumstance

Yves Bissouma missed the opening game of the Premier League season against Leicester City this week due to being suspended by the club after sharing clips of himself using laughing gas on social media, but he could be back sooner rather than later.

Spurs might need Bissouma

Footage of Bissouma‘s antics surfaced via The Sun last week, and while there may be larger repercussions for the 27-year-old down the line, his immediate fate was sealed when Postecoglou revealed he was banishing Bissouma from his squad for the Leicester game.

Speaking to Football.London at the time, Postecoglou stated Bissouma would need to earn back the trust of those around him at the club.

How long that takes is unknown, but it would obviously depend very much on Bissouma’s attitude. However, his exile may be brought to an end this weekend, even if it is a little prematurely, due to the concussion concerns surrounding Rodrigo Bentancur.

The Uruguayan suffered a blow to the head on Monday night and, as per concussion protocol, should be out of action for a week, meaning he will likely miss the Everton game on Saturday.

What better way for Bissouma to redeem himself than by coming into the midfield and playing a blinder in front of the home crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?

Will Ange trust the youngsters?

Of course, Postecoglou is not exactly short of options in the middle of the park. Pape Matar Sarr is now viewed as a more experienced head who will no doubt be in the starting line-up for the visit of the Toffees on Saturday.

Alongside him, Postecoglou could put faith in either Archie Gray or Lucas Bergvall. The two teenagers have impressed since joining the club this summer, and have already had their first taste of Premier League action.

Whether Postecoglou will trust either of them to start the game against Everton, considering they would be partnered with the relatively young Sarr, remains to be seen.

In all honesty, it would make more sense for Bissouma to play and (hopefully) bring some maturity to the central area. Plus, the fact he would be desperate to prove himself and get back in the good books can only be a good thing and could bring a top performance out of the midfielder.

So, we’ll have to wait and see whether Postecoglou brings Bissouma back in from the cold, or if he hands a huge opportunity to one of his exciting youngsters.
