Wildfire Risk Reduction treatments are scheduled to take place in Silver Star Park at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre. Works could occur as early as September 4 and last for several weeks.
Treatments will include the thinning of conifer trees around SLNC structures (in alignment with FireSmart principles), and chipping and removal of woody debris. The public can expect to see crews and equipment working, signage and increased vehicle traffic on Sovereign Lake Road. Temporary trail closures may also be in place. Please obey all signage and traffic controls to help keep crews safe.
These treatments are designed to reduce negative impacts in the event of a wildfire and manage important ecological, recreational and cultural values.
Funding for these projects is provided by the Crown Land Wildfire Risk Reduction program; please visit this website to learn more about Wildfire Risk Reduction projects.
This work is expected to be completed in September and we do not anticipate any impact on our Operations.
We are very grateful for the work being completed by BC Wildfire to protect our Lodge and surrounding structures.
