Winners of Montreal Olympic Stadium roof ideas competition announced
The Olympic Park recently announced the winners of a competition aimed at upcycling the materials used for the current roof of the Olympic Stadium, which will be dismantled and replaced.
A total of 54 proposals were considered and analyzed by the jury, chaired by architect and engineer Jean Beaudoi. Of these, eight were selected, including four in the professional category and four in the student category.
“The jury had the difficult task of choosing from a wide variety of exceptional and bold ideas for reusing roofing materials,” said Beaudoin. “We hope that this ideation exercise will inspire the community so that these concepts can eventually come to fruition.”

Professional winners:
Float by Populous (Alex Ogata , Khurtsbileg Erdenetsogt, Samantha Garza, Wendy Chen and Yuhan Gu) (United States). Development prize.
Re_Source by NIPPAYSAGE and PXP ( Michel Langevin, Mélanie Mignault, Claude Cournoyer, Renée Chamberland, Vincent Clarizio, Margot Greenbaum, Sacha Vasseur, Vincent Proulx, Claudia Fabbricatore and Thomas Grégoire) (Quebec). Prize in innovation, process and environmental impact.
Les Toits by STGM Architecture (Stephan Langevin, Pascale Bornais-Lamothe, Frédérique Trottier, Étienne Vigneau, Carlos Ospina, Alex Langevin and Marie-Pier Bazinet) (Quebec). Design award.
Module V by Nyta (Lingzhe Lu and Kun Chen) (USA). Product Development Award (Mass Manufacturing).
Student winners:
Echo Olympique by Audrey Thomas Joyal, Sarah Boisvert and Hawa Timbely (Quebec). Design prize.
Estade by Julien Ouellette, Caterina Tomassini and Simon Birtz (Quebec). Product development award (mass production).
Flotte-de-lis by Massimo Montanari, Mehakpreet Bhutta, Duha Ismail, Laila Kirton and Nava Mahouri Monfared (Ontario). Development prize.
Ionosphère by Benedict Huber, Doruk Ozturk, Diego Munoz and Emile Meunier (Quebec). Prize in innovation, processes and environmental impact.
In addition to the eight winners, a special mention was awarded by the jury for the project Les Jardins du Renouveau by Samuel Fournier and Libéro Rutilo (Quebec).
Since its inauguration, the Olympic Park has hosted thousands of sporting, cultural, social, civic and public events, which have shaped the history of Quebec. The Olympic Park, designed by architect Roger Taillibert, manages five main assets: the Olympic Stadium, the Montreal Tower, the Sports Centre, the Esplanade and the largest underground car park in the country.
