When the Baltimore Ravens signed Derrick Henry fresh off an AFC Championship loss where their running backs combined for six carries, a clear message was being sent to the rest of the NFL: that won’t happen again.
The Ravens have been a run-first team in the Lamar Jackson era. But after getting away from that identity on the biggest stage, they’ll likely return to their roots in a big way and hand the ball off to Henry a lot. Which is why I find his 950.5 rushing yards line at BetMGM curious.
Henry has been well over that number in five of the last six years, including each of the last two.
For as good as Henry’s been in his career, he’s never played in an offense with a quarterback as dynamic as Jackson. That could lead to some of the biggest holes he’s ever had to run through. The small line on his rushing total might have something to do with injury risk at 30 years old. But Henry has managed to stay healthy for most of his career. If that good health continues, he’ll hit this over easily.
Now, let’s get to some of my other predictions for running backs in new places.
