The tearful response from Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz's son as his father pointed to his family and said, "Hope, Gus and Gwen you are my entire world, and I love you,” drew a sneer from one of Donald Trump's most avid supporters, which led one of her critics to call her "vile" on social media.
During the Minnesota governor's acceptance speech, he talked about his family and the difficulties he and his wife had in conceiving daughter Hope and son Gus which led his son to jump up with tears in his eyes and point and claim, "That's my dad!"
As has been previously reported 17-year-old Gus is neurodivergent, with the Washington Post noting, "Walz and his wife have shared publicly their son has a nonverbal learning disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and an anxiety disorder."
While the moment on the third night of the Democratic National Convention has been universally praised with a flood of commenters on social media confessing it also brought them to tears, conservative gadfly Laura Loomer was unmoved, writing on X: "At the RNC, people were mocked for crying during President Trump’s speech. But now the Democrats want you to think it’s so wonderful how Tim Walz’s son was crying last night. No thanks. I refuse to have empathy or give kindness to the party of division, lies, and despair."

Loomer, a one-time candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, and someone who has been spurned by the likes of controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who labeled her as “mentally unstable” and a “documented liar,” saw an immediate backlash from commenters on X.
"You’re legitimately a psychopath, you hate everyone you disagree with," accused Kush6xi.
Lorreta Faucher went further and addressed Loomer with, "Laura, your lack of empathy is no surprise, given you were clearly born as a vile, hateful spawn. We all know you weren’t loved as a child, and it shows in every venomous word you spew. You couldn’t recognize genuine emotion or human decency if it smacked you in the face. The fact that you can’t even comprehend the difference between a real, heartfelt moment and the cultish tears of Trump worshippers says everything about your twisted, empty soul."
"It’s obvious your unresolved trauma has left you unable to empathize or show kindness to anyone," Texas Trey wrote.
"Psychopaths have no empathy, so it's not really an option for you." Twit for Democracy suggested.
KittenDrawers pointed out: "Gus Walz has a non-verbal learning disorder. You going to go tip over a kid in a wheel chair later and laugh when they can’t get up?"
"Does the life you chose make you happy, Laura? It's not too late to get on meds and be normal," @sabacthani69 asked.
Adam Moreira pointed out, "The son is not a public figure."
"Walzs son is special needs. He was very excited. But knowing your lack of heart and soul, you would make fun of him," LindaSerenko4 wrote.
Another user then added, "That young man has more love in his heart than you will ever know."
Noting that Donald Trump's campaign is flailing against ten Kamala Harris /Tim Walz ticket, Petet Court dryly pointed out, "I smell desperation."
