Children’s orchestra Sistema Cyprus’ Larnaca branch’s future has been secured thanks to the latest donation put forward by foreign exchange company XM.
XM’s donation has covered the branch’s operational costs for the year, allowing Sistema to offer free music lessons and participation in a symphony orchestra to children who typically come from underprivileged backgrounds and are often descendants of migrants.
Sistema says it “aims to empower children and young people with fewer opportunities, and ensures that these groups are respected, recognised, and included in society.”
Its director Nicoletta Polydorou said the donation was “vital”.
“Thanks to the long-term support of the company, we can and do offer children a safe and creative environment so that they can develop their skills and talent.”
She added that the lessons provided by Sistema also allow children to “communicate and socialise with other children through the international language of music”.
XM’s head of events Konstantina Stylianou said her company had been “moved” by Sistema’s “noble cause and message”.
“We are committed to continue our sponsorship and wholehearted support for the years to come. Music education offers a unique opportunity for children to feel respected and included in society and to reach their full potential,” she said.
