‘Watch. Your. Kids’ people cry as mum reveals how 4-year-old son ‘ruined’ BFF’s wedding, but insists it’s not her fault

A MUM has been left fuming after her best friend “screamed” at her four-year-old son for “ruining” her wedding.

The woman took to Reddit’s Am I The Asshole thread to share her story, explaining that she’d convinced her pal that it was a good idea to invite kids to the nuptials.

“Her two sisters both have kids around my son’s age, and she sees him as her nephew, too,” she wrote.

“But, she wanted to be able to let loose and enjoy her wedding without worrying about any kids messing things up.

“I gave her my opinion, saying me and hubby allowed kids at our wedding and wouldn’t have it any other way.

“The kids were still family and deserved to be included.

“After that, and speaking with her sisters, she and her husband OKed kids for the wedding.”

Everything was going “swimmingly” during the ceremony, as she’d even bought “quiet activities” to keep the children occupied.

“I even cried from how lovely it was,” she noted.

At the reception, the bride and groom and their guests had dinner, before the newlyweds hit the dance floor for their first dance.

“Afterwards, everybody was welcomed to the floor to dance for a bit before cake cutting,” she continued.

“At this point, the kids were running around and playing with each other and it was a fairly secure space and I knew almost everybody there, so I felt comfortable with my son playing with the other kids while hubby and I had fun dancing.”

While she’d had “a couple of glasses of wine at this point”, the bride was also “drinking and celebrating”.

When it came to the cake cutting, the woman and her husband made their way over, but there was a “crowd blocking our view”.

“Suddenly, I hear my BFF SCREAM my son’s name,” she wrote.

“Hubby and I push forward to see what’s wrong.

“I see my son with frosting around his mouth and on his fingers. The cake had a small chunk taken out of it.”

While the woman tried to apologise, the bride turned round and yelled “This is YOUR FAULT. Your son RUINED my cake. He’s only here because YOU told me it would be worth it to include the kids!”

What is the average cost of a wedding cake?

ALONGSIDE the dress, the venue, the flowers and the bride and groom themselves, choosing a wedding cake is one of the most important parts of organising a perfect day.

But ensuring you’ve got the perfect cake can be an expensive business.

Becky Hartt from Hartt Cakes spoke to Hitched.co.uk about her business, and revealed her average cake costs between £450 and £750.

This cost depends on the size of the cake, the ingredients and the decoration.

Professional wedding cake maker Kate, from Little Button Bakery, said she works out the price of a cake by using the equation: “Basic costs + cost of business overheads + cost of time + profit = price.”

“It is usually around 20-30 hours work in one wedding cake when you consider: admin time, researching designs, cake tasting and consultation, preparing and tweaking the final design, sourcing materials, liaising with other suppliers and the venue, baking, creating and finishing the cake, delivering and setting up the cake and checking in afterwards,” she added.

While an average cake is anything up to £750, some people spend thousands on the perfect one for them.

As others can spend a lot less on their cake by going to an alternative such as a cheese cake, a cupcake tower or a doughnut wall.

“I yelled back, telling her that it was just an accident and the rest of the cake was still edible,” she said.

“That this was her nephew she was screaming about.

“She told me I was no friend of hers and he wasn’t her nephew, in front of everyone.”

At that point, both the woman and her son were crying, and the bride told them to leave or she would “call security”.

After the wedding, one of the bride’s sisters reached out and apologised to her, but also said that she needed to apologise to her friend too.

“I think sorries are out the window now after her outburst,” she insisted.

“I told her sister so and said I expect an apology first before I’d say anything to her.

“Not only did she blow up at me in front of everyone, but at my son. I’m humiliated but even more angry on his behalf.”

And people in the comments section were quick to point the finger at the woman, rather than the bride.

“YOU and your negligent parenting are the reason people don’t allow kids at weddings,” one raged.

“You ruin it for parents who understand that littles need supervision and would be with their kid making sure they behave, and removing them if they don’t.”

“Why would you even want to take a 4 year old to a wedding?!? I don’t understand it at all,” another questioned.

“Your kid ruined the wedding cake and you feel that’s just an ‘accident’?” a third wrote.

“He willfully dug his fingers into the cake and ate a piece of it. How is that an accident?”

“I will never understand the obsession with bringing kids to weddings,” someone else said.

“As a mother of three, I literally hated the amount of stress I would feel at events like this when they were little.”

“Sorry but I teach my kid manners and I wouldn’t trust him 100%,” another added.

“Not every outburst/bad behavior from a kid means the parents didn’t teach them anything.

“It’s how the parents respond and whether they set the kid up for success/failure.”

“Wedding cakes are EXPENSIVE,” someone else pointed out.

“Should she have yelled? Probably not, but you absolutely should have watched your child.

“This absolutely was completely your fault. Parents never believe they are at fault for the chaos their children cause.

“Your child ruined this moment for the bride.”

“Watch. Your. Kids,” another commented.

“You should apologise and beg for forgiveness, and pay for the cake.”
