Paris Olympics 2024 silver medal-winning javelin star Neeraj Chopra will be back in action this week at the Lausanne Diamond League 2024 on Thursday (August 22) night. Neeraj won the silver medal with a season-best throw of 89.45m in Paris but Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem went home with the gold medal with a throw of 92.27m.
The Lausanne Diamond League fieldwill feature Paris Olympic bronze medallist Anderson Peters as well apart from veterans like Julius Yego of Kenya and Jakub Vadlejch from Czech Republic. Neeraj will look to complete the hat-trick having won the Lausanne Diamond League title in 2022 and 2023 as well.
On Saturday (August 17), Neeraj Chopra confirmed his participation for the event. Having struggled with the groin injury for the better part of the 2023-24 season, it was a surprising that Neeraj has been keen on chance to defend his title.
“I have finally decided to participate in the Lausanne Diamond League, which begins August 22. Luckily, the Paris Olympics went well, and I didn’t have much difficulty with my injury. So I thought of completing the season and taking the doctor’s advice regarding treatment afterwards. At the end of September, I’ll be back in India after the season ends. I will meet the doctor for my groin issues,” Neeraj said in an interaction with the media.
