SHERIDAN COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) -- A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper who was trying to get to the scene of a fatal crash in Sheridan County on Monday ended up crashing into another vehicle. A man died, and three others in the man's vehicle were injured.
The KHP says the trooper was westbound on 100 South Road, with emergency lights and a siren activated, as he approached 40 East Road. At the intersection, the trooper crashed into the driver's side of a southbound SUV.
The man who was driving the SUV died. A 3-year-old passenger was airlifted to a hospital. A woman and a baby in the SUV were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The trooper was treated for minor injuries.
The KHP has not yet released the names of the people involved.
The Kansas Highway Patrol Critical Highway Accident Response Team was called to the scene. The KHP says the crash remains under investigation.
