ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man was arrested and is accused of fleeing a police officer and later being found with a loaded stolen firearm. Syir Lewis, 26, faces multiple charges.
On Saturday, August 10, around 10:53 a.m., troopers tried to pull over a car near the entrance of I-90 in Amsterdam for a car and traffic law violation. According to state police, while attempting to exit I-90 onto I-890 in Rotterdam, Lewis lost control of the car, left the roadway, and crashed.
Police say Lewis was taken into custody uninjured. Additional investigation led to the discovery of a stolen loaded handgun out of Reidsville, North Carolina, in his car with an unlawful amount of cannabis. Police say they seized both.
Lewis was taken to Fonda State Police where he was processed. He was arraigned at the Amsterdam Town Court and was taken and held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.
