Kamala Harris appeared surprised at the Democratic National Convention on August 19, energizing the crowd with her promise to defeat Donald Trump in the November election.
In her brief remarks, Harris urged the crowd to fight for their values, reminding them, “When we fight, we win!”
Harris was expected to join President Joe Biden on stage later, who had stepped aside from the election race.
Joe Biden, the keynote speaker on the convention’s first day, took the stage after speeches by his wife, Jill Biden, and daughter, Ashley Biden.
Harris paid tribute to Biden during her speech, thanking him for his historic leadership and lifetime of service to the nation.
Biden addressed the convention, rallying the crowd by asking if they were ready to vote for freedom, democracy, and Kamala Harris.
He emphasized the need to protect democracy, stating that it must be defended and will prevail.
Biden criticized Trump for failing to deliver his promise to improve America’s infrastructure, highlighting his administration’s efforts to rebuild the nation.
He also defended his record on the economy and COVID-19, contrasting it with Trump’s.
Biden further attacked Trump by comparing him to Harris, urging voters to send a prosecutor to the White House instead of a criminal.
Hillary Clinton, warmly welcomed by the Democratic Party, praised Biden for restoring decency and competence to the White House.
Clinton also took jabs at Trump, noting that he became the first person to run for president with 34 criminal indictments.
Meanwhile, protests against the Biden administration’s support for Israel’s actions in Gaza took place near the convention, but the party seemed unlikely to shift its stance.
