With unbearable heat, I have been spending time in my modest but air-conditioned home watching the Olympics. Life seems very good. But my early morning walks take me past many people just rising from a sleepless night on the benches or sidewalks. Some comfort each other with unknown difficulties, but hope seems elusive. A Good Samaritan passes out bags with breakfast and my homeless neighbours sit sweating with bags of worldly belongings as they eat enough to keep hunger at bay for a while.
