QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) --- An FDNY EMT has admitted to stealing a wallet filled with cash from an undercover investigator posing as a sick patient last year, authorities said Friday.
Louis Carillo, 44, pleaded guilty to grand larceny and petit larceny after swiping the wallet in the ambulance on the way to hospital in August 2023, according to officials.
Carillo was caught on surveillance video swiping the wallet filled with $1,100 in marked bills and stuffing $600 into his pocket, prosecutors said.
The Corona resident has an opportunity to get the felony dismissed if he finishes a substance abuse program, surrenders his EMT certificate, and resigns from the FDNY, prosecutors said. If he doesn't complete the steps, he will be sentenced to 364 days in jail for the felony.
Carillo has been an EMT since 2012 and was suspended after the incident, officials said.
