Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Friday, August 9, 2024
Box Score · Clippers fall to 55-54
The only offense Thursday seemed to come out of Will Brennan’s bat, as he got three out of the team’s four hits and scored the only run with a solo homer.

Ryan Webb had the bump for the Clippers Thursday, though. And though he allowed a lot of traffic on the bases during his 5.1 innings pitched, he managed to only exit his start with a single earned run.
Tanner Burns and Andrew Misiaszek both had the duties from the 6th inning to the 8th and held the Saints to a goose egg. Unfortunately, the Clips’ pitching staff couldn’t get any more run support in what was a very uncharacteristic day for their lineup, so when Nick Mikolajchak took the mound in the 9th with hopes of sending the game into extras, he gave up a lead off triple that ended up being the winning run off a walkoff single from Jair Camargo.
Since the Clippers are in the Twin Cities for the weekend, we may be able to see a possible call up for this important Twins series at Target Field starting today!
Box Score · Captains fall to 62-42
Just like the Clippers, the Captains really could not find any momentum on offense. The Caps just had one hit — a 2-run bomb from Jonah Advincula — but that was all they could muster up. Travis Bazzana also seems to be having some early scuffles, struggling with impacting pitches he can mash. With less that 2 weeks into his pro ball career, those whiffs are just him adjusting to higher levels of pitching.

On the other side, Tugboat got the start and was solid! In 5.1 IP, he gave up a hit and four walks, adding up to one earned run. Wilkinson ended the day fanning six batters.

Wilkinson now has 150 strikeouts in just 97.1 innings of work with a sparkling 1.94 ERA.

Unfortunately, Josh Harlow had a rough go of things. He came in to pitch the final two outs of the 6th inning, but once he took the mound for the 7th things began to unravel. He gave up a leadoff bomb and gave up two 1-run triples in a row. Steven Perez took over to pitch the final 1.1 inning and K’ed 3, but that didn’t matter as, of course, the switch was off for the Captains’ offense Thursday. Those games happen and all you can do is wash it from your mind (That goes for the Clippers, as well!).
Box Score · DSL Mendoza Guardians improve to 21-21
Osmar Torrealba and Juneiker Caceres had the spotlight on themselves as that both had 4-hit days. They combined for 5 of the Guardians’ RBIs, with Carlos Garces getting 2 of his own on a 1-1 day with 2 walks.
Angel Perez pitched a total of 5 innings Thursday and earned himself the dub over Los Rojos. He gave up just an earned run on 6 hits and a walk, and struck out 5. Alexander Garcia took the reins from there on and pitched the final 2 innings, only allowing a single baserunner and fanning a pair of batters
Box Score · DSL Goryl Guardians fall to 30-15
Both the Guardians and the Cubs had equal showings of offense Thursday, but the Guards could’ve had a bit more going with RISP if they wanted to take this game. They left a total of 8 men on base, going 3-10 with RISP. Brayan Guedez delivered however, on a clutch 2-out, 2-run triple in the 5th that gave the Guardians a 4-1 lead for the time being.
Renil Ramos was excellent in 3 innings of work. When you face 12 batters and send 7 of them on a walk of shame back to the bench, you know you just put on a pitching clinic. Ramos only allowed 3 baserunners and, as I implied, 7 of the outs he made ended up being K’s.
As for the guys who took the baton after Ramos, things definitely could’ve been better. Joswal Betancourt gave up 3 earned runs in 2.2 innings of work, while Erick Padilla blew a save, giving up the 2 runs that earned the Cubbies the win.
Both Lynchburg’s and Akron’s games got called due to rain. Lynchburg won’t make up their game, but the Ducks’ game was rescheduled for Saturday. Details below.
Tonight’s game (8/8) against @ReadingFightins has been postponed due to rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 5:05 PM
