Report hints Tottenham could still bid for Ivan Toney despite Solanke developments

TEAMtalk reported this week that Tottenham Hotspur were expected to press ahead with bids for both Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke in the coming days.

Duncan Castles and David Ornstein both reported this morning that Bournemouth had agreed a club-record sale to Tottenham, with Dominic Solanke keen on a move to North London.

It has since been revealed that a £57m plus £3m in add-ons fee has been agreed between the two Premier League clubs (Paul O’Keefe).

However, TEAMTalks report from this week suggests Spurs could also submit a last-minute bid for Toney.

Could Spurs still bid for Ivan Toney?

The report confirms that Spurs are indeed intent on adding a number nine to their squad before the new season gets underway, with Ange Postecoglou keen to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich a year ago.

As a result, the Lilywhites were thought to be chasing both Toney and Solanke. Toney is thought to be available for the right price, given the fact that he only has a year left on his current deal at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The publication added that bids could be made for both Toney and Solanke over the next few days but it is not made clear whether Tottenham want to sign just one or both of the players.

TBR Football also tipped Spurs to step up their pursuit of Toney this week, while GiveMeSport say he could be available for just £50m.

If Tottenham managed to offload Richarlison, I could see the club moving for both Solanke and Toney.

However, that appears extremely unlikely now, with the most likely scenario being that one of Toney or Solanke will arrive through the door and compete with the Brazilian for a place in the side. Judging by the reports this morning, that man seems to be Solanke unless there is a complete last-minute U-turn.
