The United States consistently raises the issue of three detained U.S. citizens in every engagement with the Taliban administration, emphasizing that their release remains a top priority, according to State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.
During a press briefing, Miller expressed deep concern for the well-being of Ryan Corbett, George Glezmann, and Mahmood Habibi, describing their detentions as unjust.
Miller highlighted that the U.S. raises the detentions of Mahmood, Ryan, and George Glezmann at every engagement with the Taliban, particularly as the two-year anniversary of Corbett and Habibi’s detention on August 10 approaches.
He reiterated that securing the release of these Americans will continue to be a top priority for the United States as efforts to obtain their freedom persist.
Miller also mentioned that Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Corbett’s wife, Anna, in Washington this week to discuss the situation.
The State Department’s concern underscores the ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure the release of these detained citizens.
The Taliban has confirmed that two Americans are currently imprisoned in Afghanistan and admitted that discussions about a possible prisoner exchange with U.S. officials have taken place.
The United States remains steadfast in its commitment to securing the release of its detained citizens in Afghanistan, making their well-being and freedom a critical focus in its engagements with the Taliban.
