Officials at Chicago O'Hare International Airport made a gruesome discovery overnight.
Local police report that a woman was crushed in machinery in a baggage handling area in Terminal 5 that is closed off to the public. According to NBC News, she ended up trapped inside a luggage conveyor belt. The Chicago Fire Department confirmed she was found unresponsive at 2:27 a.m. on Aug. 8 and pronounced dead on the scene.
Police told CBS News that the woman was in her 40s and was not an airport employee. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office has yet to release the woman’s identity.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into her death pending an autopsy report.
