The Provost of Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET), Professor Raheem Olasupo Akewushola has called on the Alumni Association to intensify their efforts towards the growth and development of the College.
Welcoming the executive members of the Association during a recent courtesy visit to his office, Professor Akewushola emphasised that the College, being the oldest School of Health in Nigeria, deserves more recognition than it currently receives. He stressed the need for the Alumni Association to collaborate more closely with the College authorities to elevate the institution to a more enviable status.
Akewushola noted that gaining proper nomenclature and recognition would enhance the College’s prestige, attract high-quality academic staff and core professionals, and ultimately improve the quality of its graduates. He also reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and anomalies among both staff and students.
While warning that disciplinary actions would be taken against anyone found guilty of such behaviour, Akewushola emphasised that sexual harassment and extortion by staff members would not be condoned and that students must refrain from harassing lecturers through indecent and improper dressing.
In response to a comment by the President of the Alumni Association, Mr. Adeshola Arole, the Provost assured the Association of positive changes in the administration system, soliciting their cooperation and support in making the changes a reality.
Mr. Arole expressed pride in being a product of Nigeria’s first Health School, noting the success of many alumni in various fields. He acknowledged the need to work with the College to make LASCOHET first among its peers and advised the Provost on some immediate interventions.
Arole highlighted the difficulties students face in processing and obtaining certificates, transcripts and other documents after completing their programmes. He urged the Provost to use his experience to resolve the issues and assured him that the Alumni Association would assist.
He expressed confidence in the current administration and pledged full support in achieving success, hoping the College would become Nigeria’s first University of Health.
The Deputy Provost (Academic) Dr. Ronke Agoro, also attended the meeting and thanked the executive members of the Alumni Association for the visit.
