NBC shared with USA Today, “Colin stayed longer than originally planned. The competition ran long due to weather. He had a great time, and everyone was thrilled with his coverage from Tahiti.”
Upon arriving, Colin actually injured his foot on some coral reef. That injury ended up resulting in a staph infection.
He also ended up with an ear infection.
“My new goal by the time I leave here is to have as many infections as there are Olympic events,” he said on air before leaving the area.
Australian weatherman Luke Bradnam replaced Colin.
