Aaron Rodgers Makes Rare Comments About Family Estrangement, Reveals What He Said to His Father During First Meeting in Years

We’re learning about a moment that happened between Aaron Rodgers and his estranged father Ed last summer.

In the new book, “Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers,” the 40-year-old quarterback saw his father in the crowd at the American Century Championship golf tournament at Lake Tahoe. Aaron was playing in the golf tournament, and his father bought a ticket hoping to see his son.

Aaron has been estranged from his family for years. They allegedly have not spoken since 2014.

Aaron shared that when he spotted his dad, he was momentarily unsure what to do.

“I could do a lot of things,” he said (via the New York Post). “But I just thought, ‘What’s best in this moment, and what kind of gift could I give him?’ Because I do love him. I don’t have animosity toward him, even with all the stuff that’s been said and done.”

“It had been so long since we even looked at each other,” Ed shared in the book. “I just kind of froze.”

Aaron said “Hi pops” and they embraced and told each other they loved one another.

This did not lead to a reconciliation, but his parents did come to see his New York Jets debut on September 11, 2023, when he tore his Achilles tendon and was ruled out for the entire season.

About a possible reconciliation, Aaron shared, “It’s just timing, just timing. Every time I think it’s getting closer some weird things happen. But I would like a relationship with my dad for sure.”

Aaron has said very little in the past about his family, but his dad did elaborate a bit a few years ago. Aaron‘s brother (who you may recognize from reality TV) made a public accusation against him back in 2018.
