Desperate Trump Pines For Biden to Return as Democratic Opponent
Until President Biden stepped down as Democratic nominee, Donald Trump was enjoying the longest stretch of somewhat normal public behavior of his entire career in politics. Biden’s replacement by Kamala Harris has made him visibly distraught.
The manifestations of Trump’s distress include lashing out wildly at his opponent with racist and semi-racist taunts, weirdly attacking popular Republicans who have endorsed him, and obsessing over the size of crowds at their respective rallies. Most recently, he has begun fantasizing in public that Biden will return as his opponent.
At 3:36, he wrote a social-media post saying, “I HEAR THERE IS A BIG MOVEMENT TO ‘BRING BACK CROOKED JOE.’” Twenty-three minutes later, he wrote a follow-up post elaborating on this fantasy:
What are the chances that Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST President in the history of the U.S., whose Presidency was Unconstitutionally STOLEN from him by Kamabla, Barrack HUSSEIN Obama, Crazy Nancy Pelosi, Shifty Adam Schiff, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, and others on the Lunatic Left, CRASHES the Democrat National Convention and tries to take back the Nomination, beginning with challenging me to another DEBATE. He feels that he made a historically tragic mistake by handing over the U.S. Presidency, a COUP, to the people in the World he most hates, and he wants it back, NOW!!!
Many of Trump’s strange public utterances have some animalistic logic to them. Whatever their lack of connection to truth, he displays dominance or caters to the desires of his audience.
Here Trump is doing neither. He is fantasizing that the opponent currently tormenting him, and whom he is afraid to debate, will somehow disappear and the opponent he was defeating will somehow return.
The important thing about this fantasy is that it does not involve Trump crushing his enemies. It involves them rescuing him from his predicament. He is placing his own fate here in the hands of the vanquished Biden, praying for his return.
It’s perhaps natural for somebody whose fortunes have turned so sharply for the worse to imagine that things could be restored through some deus ex machina. But for Trump to spin this daydream in public view reveals the depths of his self-pity.
