Patrick Mahomes Sr. is celebrating a sobriety milestone after his DWI arrest shortly before the Super Bowl last February.
On Tuesday, the father of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes posted an update to his personal Instagram informing fans that he’s six months sober. “I would like to thank my God, wife, family, and friends for six months on the sunny side of the road,” Mahomes Sr. wrote. “I know it’s been hard getting to know sober Pat, but it’s well worth it.”
The 53-year-old father of three also honored his wife in the post, expressing gratitude for her assistance in his sober journey. “Trisha Mahomes, thanks for all you do,” Mahomes Sr. said.
Accompanying the post was a winking photo showing Mahomes standing above current MLB manager and former player Pete Rose. Rose is looking up in mock astonishment towards Mahomes Sr., who has cropped his own head out of the photo.
Fans were tremendously happy for Mahomes Sr., and were quick to congratulate him on six months of sobriety. HUGE congratulations! That’s hard work,” @mauigirltoo acknowledged. “You’ve got this, and so happy you have such a great support system.”
“Keep up the good work! We are all pulling for you!!!!” @lisabbonvini wrote.
Tinesha Mahomes, Mahomes Sr.’s sister and aunt to the Chiefs star, also weighed in on the post. “Man, I am so proud of you! As usual, you can do anything you put your mind to,” Mahomes told her brother. “I love you.”
Mahomes Sr. was arrested on February 3 in Tyler, TX, on DWI charges, The New York Post reported. He was released on a $10,000 bond one day later. Mahomes Sr. had previously pled guilty to similar charges in 2018 and 2019 and was sentenced to 40 days in jail, which he served over several weekends.
Patrick Mahomes commented on his father’s arrest ahead of the Super Bowl, confirming that Mahomes Sr. was “doing good for whatever the situation is." The QB added: "It's a family matter, so I'll just keep it to the family. And that's all I really have to say at this point."
