Vice President Harris and running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) are holding an event Wednesday evening at Detroit Metro Airport, rounding out a day of campaign appearances in the upper Midwest swing states by both parties.
Their itinerary, which included a rally in Eau Claire, Wis., earlier in the day, is the mirror image of that taken by GOP vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio). Vance visited a police station in suburban Detroit Wednesday morning before heading to Eau Claire. At the Wisconsin appearance, Vance told journalists he'd taken a look at Air Force Two at the airport, quipping, “I just wanted to check out my future plane.”
The prime-time visit by Harris and Walz follows a wave of strengthening support in Michigan for the Democratic ticket following its change in lineup.
Among a substantial list of Democratic Party heavy-hitters on Wednesday evening's program are Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain — plus retiring Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and the candidate who hopes to succeed her, Rep. Alissa Slotkin (D-Mich.).
The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT.
