Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo isn't afraid to have potentially awkward and difficult conversations.
Mayo recently caught up with Matthew Judon, who remains very unhappy with his contract situation. The first-year head coach also made sure to chop things up with another Patriot who recently found himself in some drama, but to no fault of his own.
Kendrick Bourne likely would have been sent to San Francisco had New England pulled off a blockbuster trade for Brandon Aiyuk. Bourne didn't practice Tuesday while rumors ran rampant, but he did speak with his coach.
"Honestly, I did talk to him this morning," Mayo told reporters, per a video from MassLive's Mark Daniels. "It was a good conversation. Once again, I feel like this story is so much further along than anything else. I just wanted to make sure we cleared the air. I do believe in being transparent with the players and really just setting those guys at ease."
Bourne apparently no longer has to worry about relocating. The Patriots on Tuesday night reportedly dropped out of the running for Aiyuk, who seemingly had no interest in taking his talents to New England.
The 29-year-old potentially would have welcomed a return to the Bay Area, where he played the first four seasons of his NFL career. But he obviously likes his situation in New England, where he signed a three-year extension back in March.
