While we are deep in the August heat, a new season of cultural events is brewing. Come September, the cultural agenda is bound to burst with new productions, performances and events for all. Ahead of the game, the musicians of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra have already planned the new artistic season for 2024 and 2025 with more inspiring concert series. Commencing again in September are rich musical evenings in collaboration with important organisations and highly acclaimed artists from Cyprus and the international music scene.
Alongside its long-standing programme, the orchestra is also launching two new series; family concerts and chamber music concerts. The family concerts present imaginative, specially designed programmes for young audience members and their families, offering an entertaining and high-quality educational experience.
The chamber music series showcases a vibrant blend of ensembles formed by CySO musicians presenting adventurous programmes, from mainstream classical, unusual and less-known repertoire to popular and crossover music.
To kick off the new season, the orchestra will travel to the west coast as part of the Pafos Aphrodite Festival in September, performing with the Chorus of the Tbilisi State Opera and the Tbilisi State Ballet. On September 6 and 7 at the Medieval Castle Square, they will present the world-famous opera La Traviata.
Up next is a Music in the City concert taking place at Eleftheria Square on September 20. At 8pm, the orchestra will perform popular classical and romantic pieces.
The final September concert will bring together the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra and Alexia Vassiliou. Performing at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre on September 30, the award-winning singer celebrates the 30th anniversary of the release of her internationally acclaimed, multi-platinum album, Alexia Performs the Classics, joining forces with young musicians, the orchestra’s choir and elite musicians from Alexia’s jazz band.
On the repertoire are songs from the golden era of Greek cinema and Greek jazz from the 1930s to the 1960s, bringing back songs with melody, harmony and masterful orchestrations and celebrating the merge of the original big band sound with the symphonic tapestry.
Four more concert series will arrive in October, bringing music to more cities before the winter programme begins with a diverse range of concerts in November and December.
