Jennifer Garner is unveiling how she got into shape for her cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine.
The 52-year-old actress reprised her role of the Marvel character Elektra, who she last played in the 2005 film Elektra.
“I hadn’t picked up Elektra’s sais since 2004; I was fit, but not @marvel fit,” Jennifer shared in an Instagram post on Monday (August 5).
She then continued about how she got into shape, and shared a video showing her training.

“As this impossible dream became reality, my bestie and OG stunt double @shaunaduggins and I amped up our training, led by @bethjnicely at @thelimitfit: 1x/day, plus whatever homework she assigned for a second workout. Boxing 3x/ week with @flvcothefuture from @matchroomxchurchillgym. And lots and lots of @onepeloton’s @becsgentry. ????????????????♀️????????????♀️????????♀️ We had #SuperHeroSummer over here, twirling sais in the backyard and laughing at our sore old bodies,” she wrote.
Jennifer added, “I didn’t know that Elektra and I needed an ending, but Shawn and Ryan did. They are gifted in many ways, but seeing and elevating people around them is at the top of the list. Shauna and I were in heaven on set with them, with my old pal @thehughjackman, @dafnekeen, @channingtatum, @realwesleysnipes. Shooting the fight was so fun, being there all together—truly like a dream. I’m proud of my friends and grateful to be up there with them. Thank you doesn’t cut it, guys, but it’s a good placeholder until I figure out what does. ⚔️♥️”
While Jennifer had a cameo in the movie, her former love interest on and off screen Ben Affleck did not reprise his Daredevil role. However, there was a joke about the former couple’s divorce in the movie, which she approved of!
“We never did a joke about or with anyone that we didn’t run by them first,” director Shawn Levy told Variety. “Whether it was scripted, like the Daredevil line, or unscripted, like ‘He’s normally shirtless, but he’s let himself go since the divorce,’ which was more of on-set improv, Ryan [Reynolds] or I would always run the lines by performers and make sure everyone felt comfortable and that we were never punching down.”
“It was all in a playful spirit that everyone felt good about. Those lines wouldn’t be in the movie if Hugh and Jen didn’t think they were funny,” he added.
Ryan also recently gushed over Jennifer reprising her character for the movie.
“This @jennifer.garner person. She has a blackbelt in nice, but has inside her, an unblinking hurricane of vengeance™️,” he wrote on Instagram, along with photos of her on set and in the movie. “I’ve worked with Jen twice now. She brings a completely different scope of skills to each movie but can’t hide one detail… I don’t care how talented someone is, you can’t hide humanity. She’s not only one of my favourite performers, she’s one of my favourite people. I love her and I will now and always, owe her one. Or five. What a baller. #ElektraForever”
